Our Delicious Story

The story of Halio abalone is long and complex. Our venture starts with our key supplier since 2012, from the narrative of an interconnected ecosystem: of a community of kelp beds, abalone, sea urchins, oysters and many other species, clashing with the outside force of man; to a massive scale of sea-based aquaculture farms – the long-ling hanging culture mode in sea.

We pursuit a clean and sustainable operation in place. All our agriculture abalones are grown without chemicals or antibiotics; they are fed local farmed kelp and algae so no foreign nutrients are added to the bay’s system. There is no wasted food, and the sea bottom is swept clean of abalone waste products by strong tides in the bay. Farmed abalones hardly move an inch during their entire life cycle. In the sea, they are perfectly capable of grazing across the ocean cages in search of food. However, they still have to be fed and their cages monitored and stuffed with kelp once a week in order to maintain a balanced nutrition, ensuring the freshness juicy texture always.

Abalones starts out as hatchery seed, about 1 inch in diameter and grow at a rate of about an inch per year. Fisheries usually grow the abalone out for 1 to 5 years, and the product ranges from a small serve of entrée to steak size. 

Modern Equipment: The freshly harvested abalones are delivered to the local processing premises where they are carefully unloaded and prepared for processing. The abalones will then be processed through controlled operations that ensure the final packaged products retain their premium quality and are naturally nutritious with that unique taste and texture.
